2020 Alamo Winnies
It certainly has been an interesting year for the Alamo Winnies! Our numbers stand at sixteen rigs
and twenty-seven members. We are a melting pot of camper types, Class A, B, and C too. It sure
seems like everyone enjoys the camaraderie, haute cuisine meals, and adventures we seem to find
at every get together. We feast on turkey, ham, brisket and gourmet hamburgers. Our Saturday
morning group meetings and breakfasts consist of homemade muffins and breads that make dieting
almost impossible. If theres a winery near the campground you can be pretty sure youll see some
of us sampling the local wines and also helping the local economy by bringing a couple bottles back
to share at the daily social hour. Speaking of social hours, we enjoy the great outdoors whenever
possible and our four-legged furkids are invited to participate. Of course they're expected to wear
their Alamo Winnie bandanas with their names on it.
Normally wed be listing all the great camping places weve visited this year but with social distancing and campground closures, weve had to put aside several of our get togethers. But when we could go we experienced every kind of campground from state park grounds, such as South Llano River State park, to four and five star private campgrounds like Long Horn RV Resort in Neiderwald and Alsatian RV Resort in Castroville. If you enjoy history and flea market shopping, Castroville is the place to go! Summer months are not normally months we get together because of the South Texas summer heat and humidity. But that doesnt mean we dont go camping or traveling on our own or in small groups. In 2019 alone, during the summer, our members travelled all over the world, thats right, not just the good old USA, but even to England and Canada! We spread out across the United States visiting as far west as California and Oregon and as far east as Pennsylvania and North Carolina and as far North as Wisconsin. In the middle we visited Kentucky, Tennessee, Arizona (specifically to Sedona), New Mexico, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. We spread the word about the Alamo Winnies everywhere we went. Lets hope that we can find a new normal soon and join our Alamo Winnie friends at one of our favorite campgrounds, or maybe a new one! |
